「初詣」は英語で何て言うの？

日本独特の風習「初詣」。日本人が古くから大切にしてきた慣習であり、キリスト教の国には馴染みのない風習であるものの、日本の文化の一環として外国人に説明したいと思っている人は多いのではないでしょうか？

そんな人のために、英語でどのように「初詣」を表現するのか紹介します。

補足

「初詣」は上記の通り、新年の神社への訪問という形で言い表すことができます。一部の日本通の外国人には「Hatsumoude」という言葉も浸透していますが、上記のフレーズを覚えておくと、「初詣」の意味も併せて伝えられるため便利でしょう。

なお、「初詣」のフレーズを説明すると必ず「初詣」で何をするか聞かれることでしょう。その場合は「We make a wish for health and happiness.（健康と幸せを祈ります。）」などと答えると良いでしょう。
