物事が思うように進まず、解決策などが見つからない際に使われるフレーズ「埒があかない」。
日常会話でもビジネスシーンでもよく使われるフレーズです。イライラしながら、もしくは気を揉みながら使われるフレーズですよね。
この「埒があかない」は、英語ではどのように表現されるのでしょうか？
こんな単語や表現を使います
■ Not go/get anywhere：埒があかない
■ Go/get nowhere：埒があかない
■ Not make any progress：埒があかない
こんな言い方をします
■ Do you think it’s worth having a meeting today? I don’t think so. It won’t get anywhere.
（今日打ち合わせする価値あると思う？僕はそうは思わないよ。打ち合わせしても埒があかないよ。）
■ You’re complaining about the same issue, but it won’t go anywhere unless you do something about it.
（同じ問題について不満ばかり言っているけど、何かしない限り埒があかないよ。）
■ We’ve been talking for hours and hours but we still can’t find the solution. We’re getting nowhere.
（何時間も話し合っているけど、未だ解決策が見つからない。埒があかないよ。）
■ It’s obvious that you are going nowhere unless you study harder from now on.
（今からさらにがんばって勉強しない限り埒があかなくなるのは明らかだよ。）

補足
「埒があかない」は上記でご紹介した通り「Not go/get anywhere」や「Go/get nowhere」が状況を問わず頻繁に使われます。「Not make any progress」はどちらかというとビジネスシーンでよく使われます。
上記以外に、「交通渋滞に巻き込まれる（I’m stuck in traffic）」の表現で使われる「I’m stuck」を使って「I can’t do anymore by myself, I need your help! I’m stuck!（一人ではどうにもならないよ、助けて。埒があかないよ！）」のように表現することも可能です。
この使い方も併せて覚えておくと便利でしょう。
